Dental Implants
Dental implants provide a stable, permanent restoration for missing teeth. They are anchored to the jaw bone and act as a missing tooth root, supporting a replacement such as a crown or bridge. Dental implants allow you to speak, eat, and share your smile with complete confidence! Dentures are often bulky, uncomfortable, and can slip out when eating or talking. For patients who currently wear dentures, dental implants can be used to securely attach your dentures to your gums, so you’ll never have to use dental adhesives again!
At the practice of Jacob D. Whipple, we know the importance of a smile that is healthy and strong. Dental implants will restore the strength, function, and beauty of your smile while allowing you to enjoy all of the foods you love.
The Dental Implants Procedure
During your initial consultation at our Northbrook practice, Dr. Whipple will assess your gums, teeth, and jaw to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. Typically, patients who are missing one or more missing teeth but are in otherwise good oral condition are a candidate for dental implants.
The titanium implant will then be surgically placed into the jawbone, after which a healing period will occur to allow the dental implant to fuse to the jaw bone. This can take anywhere from three to six months, and is perhaps the most crucial part of the procedure.
On your third and final visit to our office, we will place your permanent restoration, ensuring that is matches the shape, size, and color as the rest of your teeth to give you a complete, natural looking smile. Proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups will keep your dental implants looking and feeling great for many years to come.
